Welcome to the new Head of Office, Leena Maria Linnus!
We are delighted to announce that Leena Maria Linnus has taken up her role on 1 July as the Head of the European Parliament Liaison Office in the United Kingdom.
Based in London, her role is to steer the Office in its role of representation of the European Parliament in the UK, liaison with the Westminster and devolved parliaments, engagement with the public and civil society, be they British or EU citizens based in the UK.
She was until recently, and since 2015, the Director-General for Infrastructure and Logistics of the European Parliament, which led her to run an overall reform of the Directorate-General of almost 700 staff members, with the aim to provide Members and staff of the European Parliament with appropriate, safe and secure, environmentally friendlier, accessible to all, creative and modern working conditions in a period of budgetary scarcity. Her career in the European Parliament took her to a wide range of fields as she started in 1996 and held different communications and press related positions until 2005. She then went on to the secretariat of the Bureau and the Conference of Presidents, assisting Parliament's top political and administrative policy making, until she became in 2007 Cabinet member of the Parliament's former Secretary-General, and in 2012, Director for Logistics.
She speaks Finnish, English, Swedish and French, is passionate about European politics and democracy, support of the rule of law, Trans-Atlantic co-operation, security and defence policy and support towards Ukraine and other Central Eastern European applicant countries. In her new role, she is very much looking forward to helping support the new strategic partnership between the UK and EU.
