President Roberta Metsola meets with Hamish Falconer, Minister for Intergovernmental Relations and European Relations

Today, President Metsola welcomed Hamish Falconer, the UK’s Minister of State for Intergovernmental Relations and European Relations, to the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The meeting focused on how to further strengthen EU-UK relations ahead of the second EU-UK Summit. Both agreed that, in the face of shared security and economic challenges and rapid technological change, it is increasingly important for like-minded partners to stand closer together — economically, politically and on security.

The two also discussed ongoing legislative files and areas where closer cooperation can make a concrete difference, including trade, competitiveness and mobility. They stressed the shared interest in building a strong, forward-looking partnership and delivering tangible results for people and businesses on both sides of the Channel.

President Roberta Metsola reaffirmed the European Parliament’s commitment to playing its full part in deepening EU-UK cooperation and maintaining a close dialogue with the UK.
